FRIENDS + GOD: NYC PHOTOGRAPHERS SMALL GROUP
Being a wedding photographer is definitely one of my favorite things EVER. But, it does require a lot of time spent home in front of the computer. And for those of you who know me, you know how hard it is for me to not be socializing.
I am most definitely created for office small talk, lunch-time banter, and after-work hangouts.
I also come from a ministry background and really miss being able to freely and openly talk about God without offending anyone. While my church here in Brooklyn is absolutely fantastic and full of wonderful friends, I often miss out on Sunday worship during the summer due to my hectic weekend wedding schedule.
So, my days are spent staring at a computer screen, answering emails, updating Excel spreadsheets, fighting with Photoshop, and postponing Windows updates...often in my pajamas. I was starting to feel a disconnect between who I know myself to be and who I was becoming. Could I really be the me I know without social interaction and without God-talk? Thankfully, I won’t have to find out!
While having lunch at the delicious Lovely Day Thai restaurant in Nolita a few weeks ago, Caroline Frost proposed the idea of starting a Christian photographer’s small group to me and Amy Rizzuto. I knew immediately that this was God’s answer to my prayers. Socialization and God…at least once a week?! YES PLEASE!
We have had several small group meetings to date, and I honestly feel like my old self again. It is so refreshing to have great friends who share the same dreams and goals, and the same passion for living a Christ-like life. All of these ladies (Caroline, Amy, Angela, Melissa, Mekina) are such incredible inspirations to me, and I am so thankful to call them my friends. Yes, I still spend my days flitting between emails, Photoshop and harddrives - but it is so much easier to enjoy knowing my girls are by my side! :)
